How about Google Docs & Spreadsheets?  I believe they're working on a paid
service for when an entity wants to use their own domain name, but it would
be easy to try out with individual accounts at first to see if it's got what
they want.

I also just read on Slashdot that gmail is open to all (no more invites
required)
