The why of the problem is that until very recently, no-one has done
much with automating configuration changes to the X config files. In
many distros, we're still hacking xorg.conf by hand to tune stuff and
wow - it's really archane sometimes.

So, it's not a capability thing, it's a "how the hell does this bolt
fit in that hole?" thing. Like a nightmare of assembling big toys on
Christmas eve... after too much egg nog.

Here's some things I've found with google. Then a long meander
through my fantasy land....

These may be a bit dated:

This one seems pretty detailed and makes sense to me and it's current.

So, if we get clue and can connect something well - like Glen did, I
think we'll be well served by using VNC after that.

Put one machine up there on the podium connected to the overhead and
run VNC Server on it. Then we shy bastards in the back can project
without ever leaving our seats... :-)

But seriously. VNC server at the podium, and VNC viewers on our
laptops. Most current distros have it already. There's a DMG for Mac
and an MSI for Windows.

Even more interesting would be something that many users can connect
with that would have a mouse pointer for each client, some sort of
annotation paint-like function for each client, maybe keyboard input
focus sharing of some sort. Or at least one keyboard input per
application. Like, a couple of Tomboy notes and a few xterms open at
once, all of us typing away at the same time, pointing at each other's
code with our cursors, writing obscenities with the annotation
feature.... [did I really type that last one out loud] Hmmm...

Wow. That sounds really fun! Why wouldn't that be worth doing... OK,
that's a whiteboard app isn't it? Googling....

Nope - nothing interesting about whiteboards that do that yet. Lot's
of OT stuff about web services, though....

CYA,

Best,
Mike
