You can also configure it to block flash from running without your
permission.  You will have an S on your Firefox status bar when scripts
can run.  Otherwise the S has a red slashed circle over it.

When you encounter sites that just do not work, you'll need to make the
decision about enabling JavaScript, flash, etc.
